This fifth edition of the Global Eco Forum is framed in the context of consolidation of persistent crises, environmental, social and economic. Social protests around the world are loudly demanding new ways to participate and decide. Despite the enormous aid the economic system fails to leave its structural weakness and permanent state of instability.
In this context, the Mediterranean region appears as a reflection on a small scale, of the opportunities and challenges of global sustainability. Has the human, cultural and historical potential to be an area of prosperity and lasting peace. But also dramatically suffers the impact of climate change and lives every day rising tensions of access to scarce and valuable natural resources vital to human development.
The Global Eco Forum 2012 continues to explore and reflect on these challenges and try to imagine novel solutions based on collaboration and partnerships between different sectors of society, third sector, scientists and academics, business and public governments.
On this fifth anniversary we have keynote speakers who participated in the first editions and expand the internationalization of the event with the participation of various representatives of the southern Mediterranean countries. We also voice the results of the Rio + 20 defining new global commitments on two strategic axes for sustainability: building a green economy and renewed global governance mechanisms.
